The Venice Film Festival proudly took stock on Wednesday and announced increased audience numbers in the first week of the festival. The fact that more critics are staying on the Lido for a few days longer this year (in other years, it is mainly the Americans who are on their way to the next festival in Telluride or Toronto after the first weekend) may be due primarily to the clever premiere programming. “Joker – Folie à Deux”, the sequel to the 2019 Golden Lion winner, was saved until shortly before the end of the festival. It was not just the critics who were waiting for the film starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga; fans had also been camping out at the festival palace with autograph cards for days beforehand. Some legs even had a tattoo of the face of the singer, who introduced herself as a serious actress here on the Lido in Bradley Cooper's drama “A Star Is Born” in 2018.
