DThe CDU faction in the Berlin House of Representatives is calling for the cancellation of the concerts by ex-“Pink Floyd” musician Roger Waters on Wednesday and Thursday in Berlin’s Mercedes Benz Arena. The ideas of the anti-Semitic British musician put a strain on social peace in the city, said CDU parliamentary group leader Dirk Stettner and spokesman for combating anti-Semitism, Timur Husein, on Tuesday in Berlin.
The 79-year-old former Pink Floyd member has been accused of making anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic statements. Among other things, he is said to support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, which advocates a boycott of Israel.
Lots of protests, little legal action
Art is allowed a great deal and artistic freedom is a very valuable asset, said Stettner: “But we can’t and don’t have to look the other way, in this case we don’t listen when artists use their power for anti-Semitism and hate speech.”
Husein said the Senate had no legal recourse to prevent the concerts from being held: “But the organizer or the hall operator can do this, which we urge them to do.” gain weight.
There have already been many protests in Germany against Waters’ concert tour “This is not a drill”, but little legal action. The city of Frankfurt/Main and the state of Hesse had canceled a concert on May 28 in Frankfurt and terminated the event contract. On the other hand, the musician had successfully defended himself in court.
