“Business” is a very desirable field of study right now. Graduates with business degrees can work in a wide variety of workplaces, from corporate head offices to non-profit organizations. They are likely to find good jobs soon after receiving their diplomas.
It’s no wonder why a Business degree is considered one of the most useful degrees students can leave university with. It comes with a low risk of unemployment post-graduation, and it has the potential to come with a lot of rewards, like higher base salaries.
Are you hoping to study Business after graduating high school? If so, you should follow these tips.
Research the Right Programs
While you’re still in high school, you should research potential universities to apply to. Look for universities that specialize in the program that you want to join. In 2021, Macleans released a list of the best university business programs in the country, with the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto tying for the first-place ranking. Queen’s University, Western University, and the University of Alberta followed suit.
You don’t have to limit your search to universities in the country. You could look into programs around the world!
You should know that becoming an international student will have increased costs for tuition, housing and travel. If you’re thinking of going abroad for your business studies, you may want to look into grants and scholarship programs that you’re eligible for. You could reduce the overall costs and make the decision a lot easier on your budget.
Get Your Prerequisites
Once you’ve found your list of potential programs, you will want to make sure that you have all of your perquisites completed. For instance, the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University asks for applicants to have the following prerequisites: ENG4U, MCV4U and another 4U Mathematics course. Students must have a minimum grade of 80% in all of these courses.
These prerequisites are essential for getting your application considered for the program. If you’re missing a prerequisite, it’s not too late to get it. You can sign up for these courses through this virtual high school and complete them before you apply to a university program. The virtual high school offers online classes for ENG4U, MCV4U, MDM4U and MHF4U. You can sign up for these online classes at any time. You have between 4 weeks to 12 months to complete them. So, if you’re in a rush, you can complete the course and get your credit in a month’s time.
The virtual high school also has online courses that can prepare you for business programs. You may want to sign up for them to train for your university classes:
