The regime in Tehran is determined to put down the protests. Thousands of demonstrators could be executed. But they still have the poetry.
Dhe first death sentences were pronounced. The Iranian regime is using all its might to put down the protests that have been going on for eight weeks. It is estimated that 15,000 people have already been locked away. In a statement, Iranian lawmakers called them “fighters against God” and demanded that the judiciary deal with them “as soon as possible”. That means: death sentences in summary proceedings.
Sahra, who prefers not to give her real name or where she lives, is afraid for the first time these days. We have spoken to her repeatedly over the past few weeks and years. She has never been more careful than now. A week ago it hit her cousin, a doctoral student from Karaj. The men came at noon and smashed down the door. That’s what my uncle said. There was no time to pack a bag. The family does not know what is happening to their girl in prison. All they know is that the political prisoners come to Ward 12. Torture and rape are the order of the day there.
